- This event has passed.
March 27, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
When trying to measure the impact of the past on the present, it’s helpful consider what would be different now if a certain event had never taken place. This is actually a whole area of study called “alternative history.” Historians look back and ask this question: What would be different in the present if a certain event wouldn’t have happened in the past? The idea is that by imagining what the world would be like if something didn’t happen we more fully understand the impact of what did happen. So, let’s look at Easter through the lens of “alternative history.” How would life be different if Jesus hadn’t been raised from the dead? If Easter was erased, we could conclude with confidence that many things we take for granted would also be erased. Long before we could have considered this question, the Apostle Paul imagined what it would mean if Easter was erased. In 1 Corinthians 15 he talks about how different things would be for us if Jesus would have died and stayed dead.
