So what is Celebrate Recovery anyway? And how could I benefit from it?
Celebrate Recovery is a recovery program that is, in a way, similar to other twelve-step programs. However we believe that you must get plugged into a real “higher power”. So, we believe that the only real higher power is the God of the Bible, who we can connect to through His Son. Jesus said, “all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.”(Matt. 28:18) We want you to get plugged into the only higher power that holds all power! This is Jesus Christ.
In Celebrate Recovery we go through 25 lessons that make up our 12 step program. These 25 lessons help keep the movement through the steps and it goes like this… At the beginning of these lessons you connect with the only true higher power Jesus Christ. Then you examine your life, the good, the bad, and the ugly… Accepting God’s forgiveness for all the areas where you have fallen short and hurt people in your life is a big step forward. As we begin to see ourselves through God’s eyes we realize that we have value.
That God loves us with an unending love. We except the things that we have done, that we have written down in our inventory as we’ve examined our life. An understanding of God’s love for us and his forgiveness will help us to learn to forgive ourselves and others. Next we need to go back and make repairs to this “wake of destruction” that we’ve left behind us. So the third part of this is repairing relationships making amends and offering forgiveness. This will help you to love yourself. It’s only when we find health in our own lives, that we are able to have healthy relationships with others.
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love… Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus replied,
“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
So basically it’s about loving God, yourself, and others. And fourthly, one way we learn to love others is, we go back to those people who are caught in the same dysfunction that we were caught in and help them out. This is what Celebrate Recovery is all about.
